This provocative book shows that Europe in the Middle Ages was as much a product of a process of conquest and colonization as it was later a colonizer.

著者简介 罗伯特·巴特利特（Robert Bartlett），圣安德鲁斯大学中世纪史荣休沃德洛主教教授，英国国家学术院院士。他曾在爱丁堡大学、芝加哥大学任教。巴特利特曾在剑桥大学、牛津大学和普林斯顿大学接受高等教育，在密歇根大学、普林斯顿大学、哥廷根大学、特拉维夫大学、普林斯顿高等研究院等学术机构任研究员。 巴特利特著作颇丰，包括《威尔士的杰拉尔德，1146—1223》《诺曼和安茹国王统治时期的英格兰，1075—1225》等多部关于中世纪英国、圣徒崇拜、中世纪欧洲的边界与殖民的著作。他还为英国广播公司撰写并主持过3部纪录片，即《中世纪思潮》《诺曼人》《金雀花王朝》。 译者简介 刘寅，美国圣母大学博士，从事欧洲中世纪史研究，现任教于浙江大学。
